Quixtar - using the net for better communication and a more personalized shopping experience
Amway recognized quickly that the creative use of the internet could exponentially increase sales, open new distribution channels and provide a powerful communication medium for its millions of distributors. To direct this effort Amway created a dedicated internet business called Quixtar. OSF played key roles and worked closely with Quixtar to successfully meet their business needs.
OSF, working as a part of the core architecture team to develop the right technical infrastructure
Quixtar needed a flexible platform that could accommodate extensive growth and support heavy e-commerce traffic. OSF, as part of the core architecture team, created the criteria for and led an extensive evaluation of the top ecommerce development platforms. The evaluation focusing on over 40 different criteria spanning front-end catalog functionality, back-end database and legacy system interfaces, server-side scripting languages and general maintenance and support issues resulted in the choosing a solid infrastructure which continues to serve Quixtar well.
Using the internet to provide education and making shopping a more directed experience
Quixtar had a unique challenge. Its product catalog contained thousands of great products which made customer product selection difficult. To reduce confusion, OSF created in the myhome section, an easy to navigate section with an uncluttered clean interface which displays product information in a timely manner without overwhelming the user. Further, OSF working closely with marketing to design interactive modules to create a personalized shopping experience (i.e. Stain Picker chooses right product for a customer's stain, Table Top dynamically sets a table from a customers product choice). Quixtar continues to develop modules which help customers have a more direct and comfortable shopping experience.
Improving business relationships - giving the distributors on-line access to their downline volumes
In this fast paced business environment, the unavailability of information can equal lost business. OSF designed and developed key interfaces to legacy systems which allowed distributors to have immediate access to their business sales volumes in real-time from the web. Web communication proved to be a powerful way to meet the needs of hundreds of thousands business building distributors.
