Re-doing the first generation web-site
Spiegel was one of the first businesses of its kind to go on the web. However, their first generation web-site was a nightmare of painful, time-consuming and expensive maintenance. To resolve the problem, Spiegel hired OSF to develop the next generation of their e-commerce site.
OSF - resolving the problems of the first generation site
OSF understood Spiegel’s problem and they immediately began development of a seamless administrative interface for updating product information in the database. This interface soon allowed Spiegel to easily make on-the-fly edits and to both add and eliminate products from their catalog without having to posses any knowledge of web technology. The ability to make quick edits allowed Spiegel to be more responsive to the marketplace and to their business.
OSF – Choosing the right architecture
Spiegel had already realized the limitations of their first generation-web-site architecture when they hired OSF. They gave OSF full responsibility for design/redesign of their web-site. Understanding the probability of high network traffic and the need for a fast and responsive e-commerce site—as well as consideration of Spiegel’s corporate culture and needs—OSF selected and configured the right fitting hardware and software to do the job. OSF, in addition to design and capacity planning, developed what is now the basis for Spiegel’s online product ordering system.
