Amway’s Scandanavian Product Ordering System
Amway quickly saw the value in using the Internet to develop a flexible web-based product ordering system for their overseas markets. They needed web experts who had a depth and breadth of experience to allow them to do site development in varying technological platforms and languages (ASP, HTML, Javascript, etc.) in order to design and deliver a system that could support multiple foreign languages. Amway invited OSF’s lead architect to join their technical team.
OSF and a team of developers delivered what is now called “Amway’s Scandinavian Online Order System.” Totally transparent to the end-user, the site supports dynamic switching to the preferred language base, giving the user the comfort and convenience of viewing the site in the user’s own language. Behind the scenes, back-end processes developed by OSF, supports the synchronization of data from the ordering system to Amway’s legacy system.
The system was deemed a success in opening new channels for product distribution in Scandinavia.
New business idea: Web-site on a disk
Amway is always looking for ways to help their distributors build a business. For years, Amway had been providing distributors with a browesable product catalog on CD. Drawing on their vast web experience, OSF devised a system that replaced the flat static image catalog with a web-site on a disk—without increasing cost to the company or distributors. The advantages were significant: The new CD was loaded with multi-media product videos and documentation providing visual and data interest. And, browsing the catalog became a snap for more distributors as it now had the look and feel of internet web navigation.
Web-sites on disks are popular in a myriad situations where users do not want to wait for downloading of images and audio from a centralized site. In fact, Web-sites on a disk proved to be so successful, that OSF will be offering this medium to client companies to advertise their products and services.
